Boffins' Breakfast — Clerkenwell

Tea, toast, and three short introductions. No keynotes. No lanyards that could be used as weapons.

A morning for people who have a work package or a piece of kit and would rather say it out loud than into a form.

Three five-minute introductions, then the useful bit: conversation. Arrive knowing what you need.

The format is deliberately austere. Five minutes is enough to say who you are, what you have, and what you are looking for. It is not enough to show a market-sizing slide, which is the point. Speakers who overrun are allowed to finish and then gently reminded that the toast is going cold.

We keep the room small — around thirty people — because a room of thirty produces conversations and a room of three hundred produces a queue for the coffee. Attendance is by arrangement rather than by ticket, which is a polite way of saying we would like to know who is coming.

Previous mornings have produced two work packages, one tank booking and a long-running argument about accelerated corrosion testing that is still going. We consider all three a success.
